ChatGPT versus Lawyers

Nowadays, many people go to ChatGPT instead of lawyers for legal advice. After all, it will quickly explain the situation, give you «right» articles, even support you in any dispute. But can it replace a professional lawyer?

I’ve been testing AI, and here’s what I noticed:

  • Confuses legal terminology — one mistake and the meaning of the norm changes completely.
  • Gives references to invalid legal acts — try to justify your position in court with an old law.
  • Mistakes in the analysis of articles — the answer looks confident, but the check shows that it is simply wrong; and even in this case sometimes ChatGPT guarantees that the answer is correct.
  • Always supports the user — ask ChatGPT if you are right and it will find an excuse for any situation. Even psychologists don’t do that.

ChatGPT is a tool, not a lawyer. And if you are:

  • Open a business in another jurisdiction
  • Delivering goods and dealing with international contracts.
  • Preparing for litigation
  • Want to competently draft or review contracts and other documents

Putting your fate in the hands of an AI is very risky.

A lawyer is not just a person who reads laws. He understands its meaning, takes into account the nuances of your situation, analyses court practice for your case and determines the strategy of the case.

Use technology, but don’t replace professionals with it.
